key:

Total co2 : Total co2 - This is the total co2 for all the types of electricity production we can calcuate it for. This does not included Pumped Hydroelectric or imports. This also does not include unmetered sources such as Solar and Small Generation wind power. The Power quoted is the total for all the sources we can calculate co2 for (so is slightly less than the total UK Demand).

Coal : Coal Power Stations - The co2 of Coal power generation is calculated using the value 870g/kWh. There are currently 16 Coal power stations in the UK. The current Governments plan is to shutdown all coal stations by 2025.

Nuclear : Nuclear Power Stations - The co2 of Nuclear power generation is calculated using the value 16g/kWh. There are currently 10 Nuclear power stations in the UK.

Wind : Wind Power - The co2 of Wind power generation is calculated using the value 11g/kWh. There are currently over 6500 wind turbines in wind farms.

CCGT : Combined Cycle Gas Turbine - The co2 of CCGT power generation is calculated using the value 487g/kWh. There are 33 CCGT power stations in the UK.

Hydro : Hydroelectric - The co2 of Hydroelectric generation is calculated using the value 20g/kWh. There are approximately 200 Hydroelectric stations in the UK.

Oil : Oil Power Stations - The co2 of Oil power generation is calculated using the value 650g/kWh. There are currently 7 Oil powered stations in the UK.

OCGT : Open Cycle Gas Turbine - The co2 of OCGT power generation is calculated using the value 487g/kWh. There is currently 1 of these in the UK.

Other : Biomass - The co2 of Biomass power generation is calculated using the value 435g/kWh. There are currently 17 biomass stations in the UK.

cO2 values used are lifetime values and come from the EDF Energy website. The biomass figure has been estimated as there seems to be no consensus of opinion(opinions range from 'zero' to 'worse than coal') so a figure of half that of coal has been used.
